So yeah, I've heard of the "digg effect" ... kind of like slashdot for non-tech blogs. But until a combined traffic attack from digg and reddit at the same time brought f-ckingc-nts' database server to its knees on Friday (dammit Wordpress, can't you think of a more efficient way to serve pages?!), I didn't quite appreciate the magnitude of the impact.

Anyhow, now that things have calmed down a bit in f-ckingc-nts land, I'm left with a few questions to ponder:

  1. What's with RSS subscribers? Seriously ... yesterday I had 440+ subscribers, today I have 280-some. Everyone just changed their mind overnight? Weirdos.
  2. How to avoid the server-crippling effect ... is there any better option than the regular WP-cache plugin (which isn't up to handling 200,000+ page requests in one day), or the Super Cache plugin (which requires you to edit Wordpress files that will then need to be re-edited every time you update the site)? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?
  3. How the fuck do you follow something like that up? I put up a little post today, relating to a bunch of the comments people left on the surprise smash-hit post ... but really, I've kinda got performance anxiety now. lol
  4. Money. I need to get off my ass and monetize this sucker. Bleah. Anyone want to just become a patron of the site? You send money, I make you laugh. :-D

Ah well, things are slowing down considerably today ... back to work.
