knittery: dammit, i must swatch!

Damn, damn, damn. There I was, knitting my super-geeky-cool Klein Bottle Hat (which is two moebius loops, sewn together along the edge...), and I went to try it on, and I don't think it really even qualified as a beanie. Maybe it will fit the ex's son?

My problem: I hate the very idea of gauge swatching. Knit a square, measure it, un-knit it, start over again. Bleah. So I foolishly thought, "Hey, I'll just do it JUST the way the pattern says, but with larger needles 'cause I knit kinda tight," forgetting the fact that when I knit my moebius loop neck cosy (with larger needles), I took one look at my 60 (by-the-book) cast on stitches, and said, "Girl, that ain't fitting over ANYBODY'S head. Cast on an extra 20 to be safe." Maybe if I'd done the hat-halves with 80 stitches? Poo.

So, on to the next project, while I bitterly debate whether or not I even want a Klein Bottle Hat.

"What is my next project," you ask breathlessly?

Crazy Aunt Purl's Easy Roll-Brim Hat, made with incredibly bright, raggedy, socially-eco-conscious recycled silk yarn:

recycled sari silk yarn

Oh yes. I shall call it Teresa's Amazing Technicolor Dream Hat, and I shall wear it as proudly as an old lady wearing purple! (And I swatched it, dammit, so I know it will fit!)
