There's a big political rant brewing, promise. Tomorrow maybe. But SO. MUCH. STUFF. TO. COVER. God. So, let's talk about knitting instead today! I made a hat with two colors of yarn!

hat on yarn cake

Circular needles ROCK. And so does the book Socks Soar on Two Circular Needles, where I found the most excellent vine pattern, AND learned how to knit without messing around with many multiples of double pointed needles. Someday, I might even make a pair of socks!

...and the hat, after being soaked in water and set up to dry on towel stuffings (to absorb the water, and give it shape), is perfect. Perfect shape. Perfect size. Once I finish the nice, soft, merino liner for it, it will even be perfectly not-itchy, and warmer than I'll need for 75% of the year.

halfway done!
Perfect hat! Love my perfect hat!

So, the scarf I started that I figured I would add five more rows to... Holy hell, is this thing going to be huge! Maybe I should turn it in to an afghan! Teeheehee! Anyone who decides to start knitting must know one thing! You'll get the hang of it eventually! If the advice gets confusing: stick to it and pay attention, no matter if your possible 'tutor' says things that eventually only relate to the way 'they' do it. It can be a truly simple way to focus out the extra crap in any situation. Imagine, knitting in a class of 80+ just so you can pay attention to the most amazingly dull-drum instructor known to humanity! (I actually turned around and gave the 'kid' behind me a very heinous glare because his mp3 player was drowning out the monotone voice of the instructor. It took him a miniscule amount of time to get the hint... I turned around and continued knitting. What a hoot!)

That is one darn perfect hat! While I can't knit I gave my daughter a Granny that taught her all she needed to know. I knit by proxy... I buy all the yarn!

You don't want to adopt a second daughter, do you? I'd love to have a sugar-momma to support my yarn habit! ;-)

A woman of many talents you are T! That's lovely! I've always wanted to learn to knit... but I gave up on the idea after seeing the results of my daughter's baby blanket I crocheted for her. :-S

Did you use fairaisle or intarsia to do the two colors? I'm trying to use a color chart for the first time and I'm not sure which method to try. Great job!

Intarsia seems like way too much hassle. With this, all you need to do is make sure you don't pull the yarn too tight when you carry it around. Intarsia's got all those loose ends, and I think with an "all the way around" pattern like that, you'd end up 'wasting' as much if not more yarn trying to do intarsia. Or the hat would just fall apart. heh.
