a brief meeting with the bowling gods

I experienced about 10 minutes of bowling zen last night. Yes indeed. In my first five frames, I got three strikes.

The rest of the evening went more as expected. I need a bowling shirt with big flamboyant embroidery on the back reading "Gutterball Queen." I really went just for the fun of it. 'Cause I sure can't bowl. But I do have fun laughing at myself.

And there was a cute guy playing our lanes for me to smile at. That helped take my mind off the fact that The Other Half of "Our" was not in a very conversational mood for the latter half of the evening, which was making me nervous. The original plan was to go bowling with a group of people of TOHO's inviting, but nobody got invited, so it was just the two of us. This seemed like a Bad Idea to me, because TOHO is a super-extrovert, who always seems happiest in a big group of people.

The high point of the evening came when TOHO -- talking about the group of people who play on Tournament Bowling nights -- said, "the conversation is always better on Fridays...."

Hello. What's that you dropped on the floor? Oh. It's your tact... Would you like that back, or weren't you using it anymore?

You should join a league! Leagues are the only ones who get the best lane nights anyway...most of the time you can't even get a lane unless you are part of a league. But then I grew up on a small town where THE thing to do was bowl. Or drag main.

There's never a problem getting a lane on 'regular' nights, AFAIK. But Saturday nights are 'Colorama' nights, where they mix colored pins in with the regular ones, and you get money if you get certain combos of colored pins, etc.

It's like bowling party night. :-)

I'd feel bad joining a league. They'd need some serious kick-ass bowlers to compensate for my gutterball-throwing ass. hehe.
